PRESCRIPTIONS (THE BOOK) (2017) In April 2016 the Beaney House of Art and Knowledge in Canterbury opened an exhibition of artists’ books on wellbeing and medicine – Prescriptions. The exhibition was curated by Dr. Stella Bolaki and Egidija Čiricaitė as part of the Wellcome Trust-funded project “Artists’ Books and the Medical Humanities”, led by the University of Kent’s School of English and the University of New England’s Maine Women Writers Collection. Prescriptions was open to the public from the end of April until the 25th of September 2016, in which time it was viewed by 71,898 visitors. Since the exhibition at the Beaney most artists have kindly donated their books that are now housed at the University of Kent’s Special Collections in Templeman Library. Prescriptions (the book) serves as a record of the exhibtion: it provides an overview of all artists and their works, contexualising them in medical humanities context though a selection of essays.
